Going Back To The Islands…

I will begin my weekly blogs once again readers.  There was a time in my life, that I had decided to push music to the side and focus on my career and business.  Unfortunately, the writer can tend to forget his own advice.  Not making time for music and just focusing on my job, business, and other goals kind of sucked.  I understand that the entrepreneur should never stop and keep going.  Yet, over time and time again, music is my post to lye on and take a breather…

BREATHE.

I know youTube as well calls me.  This is still a work in progress, as I would like to post weekly content that is worth watching and can maintain a growth in subscribers.  My goal is schedule media productions to help me go either part-time work or stay at home full time.  With goals, these missions can take a considerable amount of time.

TIME POOR.

This always brings me back to what my mentors have spoken to me repeatedly and ever single success or leadership book out there.  “CONSISTENCY”

COMPOUND EFFECT.

Consistency is something I know I struggle with.  For me, I tend to wait for the right conditions to pursue or maintain consistency.  We all know unfortunately, that the world doesn’t revolve around us.  So, pushing against the resistance is always a folly of mine.  Yet I digress, I feel at my best for my personal choices right now in my life.

RELOCATE.

The islands have been calling me ever since I moved out to Alberta.  When you get raised on a coastal beauty, you can’t help but feel trapped within the walls of mainland.  I am most excited to explore and take on the islands with a new purpose and goal.  Planning to be as progressive as possible in every thing I do.

LIFT SON.

My fitness goals have turned up key ever since I moved to Alberta.  I can’t wait to be back on the islands pursuing different ways to increase my fitness.  The gym has become a safe haven and home for me.  As crazy as it seems to some people, it feels good every time I go to the gym.

HERE WE GO.

Welp.  See you all soon and enjoy those holidays.  Be the best you can be.

Cheers,

SongsSmith

Steve Kroeger: “W.F.T.B. ft. Skye Holland”Single Review

It’s spring, it’s breezy, and it’s damn hot out already.  You need something to cruise too, run too, dance too….you need some kroeger mojo.  DJ Kroeger takes charge in the electronic edm dance phase.  Leading off with synth to touch vocals, followed by some good old salt shaker samples.  We know you are already rolling down those windows.  Faded in, Skye “Ballin” Holland puts a seductive spin on her lyrics and DJ Kroeger mixes and turns her vocals to gold.  DJ Kroeger keeps it ambient and chill.  Opening a can of netflix and chill to start and then well…then it happens.  😉 ca ching!

Listen, and listen. DJ Kroeger does an excellent job matching his bass samples to his kick samples.  Each one accompanies each other and doesn’t cancel one out.  What you get is a hella drop and well this happening.

The drop pumps out a high quality simple bounce feel.  This drop is progressive, danceable, and catchy.  DJ Kroeger basically dropped you a high quality steak, and well you ain’t passing it up if he offers it again.

I recommend this song to the people sitting on your couch. Get outside dammit!

Trevor Wesley- “Chivalry is Dead” Single Review

That was one of the first things my dad showed me when I was a kid. Was always being chivalarous to a woman, it’s the way to be man…well unless they going cray on you for no reason….uh oh ;)…

Just watch this video..it’s old but it pretty much sums it all up.

With good morning vibes, Trevor decides to bust out the comfy but loose guitar riffs.  Accompanied by a frank sinatra style vocal, and and comfortable jason mraz trumpet vibe…welll Trevor..you did it.

Stepping away from most of the music out there complimenting on woman’s “assests” and hourglass curves, Trevor is all about respect.

Forget the mission for getting laid, or something more, just his simple principal of treating a lady…very well.

Welp Im lazy today, enjoy the song…and stuff.

Sincerly,

That SongsSmith Guy.

Artist Showcase: “Ken Waters:”

Hot off the press it’s Ken Water’s new single “Cliche”. Download it for free now. Click above ^

From humble beginnings to pushing for his dreams comes our showcase artist ‘Ken Waters’.

Ken Waters began producing electronic music in his early high school years, finding that something about producing music ‘clicked’.  He continually progressed on to Trebas institute in Toronto to complete his studies in Music production, Audio Engineering, and DJ Arts.

Further moving back to Haida Gwaii where he is stationed now producing tracks for artists on youtube, and pushing himself forward in the music community.

Special thing about Ken is, he ain’t stopping till he reaches his goal.  That’s the thing about Ken…he took his passion and turned it into a everyday dream.  I can’t imagine given a few more years how much further Ken will get.  Well… just look at the guy, he’s going somewhere 😉

Ken recently release his EP “Ying and Yang” and surprisingly one of his songs took off!  With already over 79,000 plays on soundcloud. It was due time Ken needed some proper audience attention.

I’d keep a lookout for Ken Waters.  I endorse him 100 percent, he’s a best friend, an extremely hard worker, and a passionate son of a b*tch.  Don’t let your ears miss out on this great talent.

Jr. Castro ft. Timbaland- “FMN” Single Review

FMN… I’ll let you figure out what that acronym means… 😉

Do I even have to review this song?  JR Castro aka Casanova is laying it out real simple folks… FMN.

Light the candles… check.

Bring out the silk… check.

Pre-victory dance…check.

Chocolate….check.

Well… you get the point.

Jr. Castro and Timbaland decide to grace us with a straight up literal lyrical composition of climax’s…galore.

Jr.Castro combines his cued, sexy, and seductive vocals with Timbaland’s pole grinding production skills.  If this song is all about love-making… they rocked it till the walls came down.

Really, this song is very well composed, on time, on key, and synths and instrumental are so sly it’s insane.

The only real way for this song to really be reviewed is…does it get your emotions jivving?

The answer is obviously yes, imagine just a gate of love-making emotions just open as you hit play.  Makes me feel like you are honing in on the one person you want to make love with and you ain’t stopping till the sunrise.

Listen to the Jr.Castro…really listen to him…  Like he is pushing all that emotion to ‘woman appreciation’.  He continually focuses on every inch of that woman and how she is making go head over heels.

Sometimes, it may be smart to inspire like Jr.Castro.  Cuz…damn people he seems pretty damn happy.  Do what makes you happy…

Without getting all side-tracked and crap…listen here.

This song follows the R&B flow that let’s you feel the song not only through your ear drums but through your whole body.  It’s songs like this that are great when you want that magical love making to come easier.

So… get busy…play FMN… you know you want to… 😉

I recommend this song to the coitus dwellers.  Get back to that abode and spread those wings.

Sincerely,

SongsSmith

Molly Moore- “Peace Of My Heart”Single Review

Press play.

Close eyes.

Side-chain engaged.

Vocals beat in.

Molly Moore brings in a pounding progressive ‘sky-step’ flow among the ear drums.  ‘Sky-step’ just means the kind of music that makes you feel like your flying in the sky. It’s electronic of course, and yes use your imagination, close yours eyes…feel it.

Instrumental? Music?

To be honest, nothing really new as composed to all the other ‘sky-step’ slow progressive electronic music out there. Nevertheless, here are a few things I do see that are tasty treats.

  1. 0:32-1:10 / If you listen to the glide between transitions and melody mixes…it’s quite elegant.  Not to mention that kung fu style drop melody.  Pretty unique, and progressive…ahem..’sky-step’.
  2. 2:20-2:28/ Bring on the mesmerizing uses of radio effect! Yes ‘Sky- step’ uses a lot of radio effect, but finally someone that is in tune of all the vocal changes, smooth, professional…goosebumps? Maybe…
  3. The mixing in the whole piece is quite-well leveled.  I don’t hear any layers that are over-compensating or drowing out any other tunes.  I’ve noticed a lot of people like to raise their vocals really loud these days.  However, Molly Moore does not have this issue.
  4. Her voice…It’s damn good, lot’s and lot’s of potential.

Would you hit replay?

No doubt, I’ve already listened to the song about 20 times and it is super catchy.  Keep on lookout for Molly, she will be killing it in the future.

I recommend this song to the peace keepers of indie. Put down those pumpkin spice latte’s and actually say hi to her/him for once.

EDEN- “Wake Up” Single Review

This song.

You don’t get a song like this often.

It just connects with you.

The tune…

Forget the sly piano riffs that make you drift off, but listen more to the vocalists voice.  Not everyone can sing that low range soft tone and pull it off smoothly.  EDEN then wraps this tornado of real emotion into the lyrics that pulls you in.  The mixing on the vocals makes you feel like you are in a sphere with the vocalists voice wrapping around you.  It plays a quite mesmerizing feeling as the instrumental beats on.  Adjustable, sexy, vibrant…hot damn.

Thank

God

     RADIO

EFFECT

VOCALS!

Instrumental?

  1. Chords… come on people… you love chord piano played songs….don’t deny it
  2. Reverbed SFX effects that are bewildering but elegant in nature… adds immensely to convincing you that this song is for you.
  3. The ending 30 seconds where it gets super loud is a little bit of a let down…but I guess if you wearing headphones…you ears won’t explode.
  4. Listen to this song about 10 times and you’ll see a ‘mountain- climbing’ progressive rhythm.  It’s quite nice with the flow of violins, and synths that compress into one another.

Catchy?

In my opinion…overly…dangerously catchy…make you kinda sad but happy catchy.  Think I am wrong? Welp…go ahead… Ask the millions of people that think the song is DAMN catchy!

Relating to this song is insane…

How I relate?

Who have you met in your life that you have had to leave?  It’s not easy, at most times it isn’t even reasonable but it something that maybe at that point in time it needed to happen.

I remember years ago…

I had gone to visit my friend &  go surfing,  and enjoy my time off before I had to go back to work for the fishing season.

As I stood on my friend’s porch, I talked to his parents, and conversed, and began to see stars and crashed I went.

Passed out and crashed into a shelf behind me… Embaressing.

When I woke up…well there she was.  Red hair, green eyes, big smile…

“Are you ok?”

“Yeah… I’m ok…”

“Hi, my name is ____”

“Oh, well my name is Ewald”.

Then it began.

She came to all our surfing missions, and hanged out with me and my buddy a lot. We went on adventures, got to know each other..and as the weeks went by we got closer and closer.  Everyday was happy… it was beautiful…yet as days reached closer… I knew I would have to leave.

I think back on the day…did I really have to go?

Technically no… I had enough money to start more schooling, get a job, a place, work it all…but I chose to leave, my gut said there was more I needed to pursue in life.

As I stood in the ferry terminal with her, I held her and said this was one of the greatest times in my life, and wished she would find someone amazing, and that would treat her with every ounce of respect, kindness, and love she deserves.  Tears were shed that day…

Despite all of this happening… and other relationships happening … I continously searched for someone that I would never let go.  With time, I didn’t realize she was right under my nose…and when I decided to “WAKE UP” she was there. My beautiful wife, my soulmate…  Everyday, I wake up and can’t imagine her not being there… you form this insane bond with someone where…nothing is really uncomfortable…

I ponder about my connection to her and it actually blows me away… Love is pretty damn cool… and listening to ‘Wake Up’ just makes it even more real.

Do the things in life that make love more real to you.  Life is so short…and we need to embrace that…  Find someone that deserves you.

I recommend this song to the introverts of the mind…let it out…wake up.

Sincerely,

Tattered: ‘Confide’ Music Video Review

Guided and steered by the true passion of music that represents a vessel of emotions such as: angst, frustration, excitement, adrenaline, lessons learned, and sometimes lessons not learned. Tattered tears into our ears with their new music video and single ‘Confide’.  Embracing a Post-Hardcore style that shreds rippled effects of distorted guitar notes and rythms. Let’s dive into their world and confide in what they know.

Before diving into the video, we counter back to the lyrics of the song. Lyrics portray a purpose to this piece of art.  Tattered lays the words into our ears.  I see a meaning of having someone close to you ripping you apart.  You invest endlessly and yet, they tear you back. Their main lyrical word “Confide” can reveal a truer reality of the world. That love, life, and anything is just not all true. All it takes is one’s effort given to the max, and one piece of the puzzle to go missing.  This which in turn, tears it all apart.  As you listen to the angry screams and progressive vocal riffs; you can’t help but feel connected to the song.

Breaking into the video quality and video editing of “Confide”. I am at a bit of  a stop.  A lot of music videos these days, focus heavily on story lines and people’s videos having 5 billion scenes when playing.  Tattered took a basic approach to videography for this song.  “Confide” is setup to match the music to the light’s around the stage.  The team, seems to have edited it to match seemlessly uprise every instrument in the song.  For example, front to medium shots when the vocalists is blasting.  Complimented by quick guitar riff shots and back drummer shots.  This all combines to create a symphony of scenes that layer a ‘headbanger effect’.  If you are not head-banging while watching the compilation of scenes…well then you clearly are not feeling it my friend.  So far, I like the video editing overall, because the music actually matches with the clips.  Too many people not having clips match…It can be annoying at times.

A true point about this music video, is it gives the audience and fans a good representation of how damn hard these guys rock it on stage.  The video clearly sweeps to each person in the band and takes time to reflect fully on how they would act on stage.  Correct me if I am wrong, but if you are going to rock…well you might as well go all out.

Finishing this off with the video quality…in my opinion not everyone owns a million dollar camera.  Even though there is some over-lit saturation in some shots, for the most the part video is clear.  Gray noise doesn’t appear in the clips, and the iso is on key.  Even if you don’t do videography…assure yourself, it’s not always easy to get clear shots when working with light plants.  However, Tattered did a good job on this music video overall.  Keep I look out for these guys.

I recommend this song to the restless souls of our artic land Canada.

Sincerly,

Santa Clara: “Human (Everything Is Changing) ft. Laurell

You stretch out in moments of breathlessness, and realize your world changes every second, every minute, every hour…  Santa Clara brings us a new sound wave, crossed by vocal waves of the complexity of simplicity.  Being and only being…human.  Arising from the amounts of changes that combat the two singers Santa Clara and Laurell.  Drenching in reality that the mental and physiological structure of one’s soul can’t always stand change.

The instrumental in this piece is what I prefer in my eyes as “excellent”.  I tend to be more leaning towards songs that don’t have 5 billion layers in them.  Each verse and chorus has all their ‘necessary’ parts.  For example.  The first verse:

Drums: Not over layered, clean, progressive and smooth…ultimately catchy and your speakers are not crying for help.

Synths: A few stationed here and there. All in timely sequenced.  If you listen closely, there is quite a few synths adding quality filler.  It opens a solid dynamic to a fuller song and a unique sound.  That is one aspect I enjoy about Santa Clara, is his ability to have unique sounds push into his sound wave compositions.

Vocals:  The vocals resonate a clarity of quality notes, and not overly dominated synthesized voice.  It brings me back to the times of recording and killing all signs of white noise, humming, popping from the mic or pop filter and background sounds.  I’ve listened to this song in my car, computer, headphones and still, the vocals come out clear and not over powering.  It is a compliment to the mix.

Having the necessary pieces to a song, complete it, and give us the reality that: ” well damn…this song is actually really f*ing good.  To be able to appreciate another artist’s skill and time, brings out another dynamic of appreciation and enjoyment.  You just can’t go wrong with this song.

Furthermore,  Santa Clara is known from my perspective to have competitive hooks. They are new, catchy, and will definitely trigger you to sing through the chorus by the end of the song.  As I have said many of times, that is how you get further in music.  Being able to catch your audience and let them join you in the song.  Embrace it, follow it, and let it become part of their listening process.  Enabling each listener to attach emotions, vibes, and all that inner glory.

I recommend this song to the machines without a spark.  Let yourself ignite.

Cheers,

SongsSmith
